Sin doesn’t throw off God’s plan, but it sure makes us miserable.
When God promises something to us, it will happen. It’s just that it usually takes longer than we’d like, and when we get anxious and take it into our own hands, we usually pay for the consequences.
Rebekah, Isaac’s wife, was such a case. God clearly promised her that her younger son, her favorite, would be blessed instead of her older son. But she figured God needed help and devises a plan to force it to happen. She tricks her husband, Isaac, into blessing the younger son rather than the older son. So, the plan worked, it seemed, and the younger son is blessed as she desired and God promised. But because she took the matter into her own hands and forced it rather than waiting on God, she never gets to see her favorite son again.
We cannot use earthly means to bring about godly ends.
For example?
– If marriage is in your future and God confirms it, you cannot marry an unbeliever just because you see no believer who is willing to marry you.
– If you are constantly fighting with your spouse and you are concerned about the emotional well-being of your children, you cannot use that as an excuse to get a divorce.
– If money is tight and you are in debt, you cannot declare bankruptcy just so that you don’t have to pay back the money.
Do not take matters into your own hands. Even though they seem to work out at the time, they will come back to bite us in a big way.
Don’t forget whose world this is. And that we will see Him soon…
