I get this question asked a lot these days: “Why is God hiding from me?”

Translation: “I’m seeking God and His will. I really want to know Him and feel Him and have my prayers answered. But He doesn’t seem to be near. I just need a sign that He is there for me!”

I don’t know if this is any consolation, but you are not alone! I feel that way often times. But more importantly, biblical writers felt that way often. Just listen to the existential outcry of a psalmist in this one: “How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?” Ps. 89:46.

More directly, read Psalm 10. One verse in that chapter goes, “why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?”

My take on this: We will treasure God to the degree in which we have sought after and waited on Him.

Those of us who have never sought hard after God will never know the joy of knowing Him. Seeking is a necessary process we need to go through in order to experience Him. Most people will give up long before ever finding Him.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13

He wants to be found. But not by those who are casually seeking Him. Easy come, easy go… We need to seek Him with ALL our heart.

Do not give up. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Remember the cross. He will not render what He did on the cross meaningless. He WILL deliver us!
