Is there someone you trust with your life? You are absolutely convinced that this person will do what is best for you no matter what? How did you come to trust that person like that?
…Because of his/her past acts. Someone like that in my life is my mother. For over 50 years, she has done everything with my best interest in mind (whether right or wrong, her intention was always for my good). So, when I look at how she has treated me in the past, I can trust that whatever she will do in the future will be for my best.
That is how faith works. Faith is not in a vacuum. It is not “blind.” It is seeing the past acts of God, we are trusting Him for the future. We need to and must look back and remember what God has done for us.
“Your eyes have seen all that the Lord did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials and to all his land. With your own eyes you saw those great trials, those signs and great wonders.” Deut 29:2-3
At the end of his life, Moses is adjuring the Israelites to remember how the Lord acted in the past in order to trust Him for the near future.
How has the Lord provided and blessed you? Remember them often. And then turn that into trust for the current circumstances.
