You are not just laying bricks. You are building a cathedral!
You may have the most mundane job. Perhaps stacking boxes at a grocery store. Working the register at a discount store. Making fried chicken all day at a fast-food restaurant. Changing adult diapers at a nursing home. We die a little death as we do these things if we believe them to be meaningless. Our soul yearns for something meaningful and grand. There must be more to life than this!!
And there is! Joseph of Old Testament served as a common slave for years until he was put in prison. And in prison, he had to serve several more years, doing the menial work. But it was not meaningless. God was teaching him to be the prime minister of Egypt. God was going to use him to save the known world from famine.
God is working on you to rule over cities and nations (Luke 19:17). Do the menial tasks well. For me it’s trying to decipher what the kids have scribbled on their notebook to grade their homework that almost drives me insane. But when I remember that God is training me to run the universe one day by giving me these tasks, they are no longer meaningless.
Work hard as if onto the Lord!
