God’s primary concern is with Himself and not us. God is about God. And we want it to be that way.

As I’m reading through the Genesis account of the creation of the world, it’s easy to be me-centered and think that all this was created for me. God created the universe to dazzle my eyes. But He did not! The creation is for Him. I’m part of that creation.

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). But very good for whom? For us? No! For God.

“All things have been created through him and for him.” Col 1:16

God is first and foremost about Himself. He makes Himself the ultimate end of all things, and not us. And that’s a good thing for us as well. Why? Because if God had made it about us, we could not possibly live up to His expectations of us. We would have to prove ourselves worthy of His love and adoration. But how could we possibly make ourselves worthy of His adoration when He has everything?

But this creation is for God. There are wonderful creatures in the bottom of the oceans or jungles of South America that no human being will ever see. They weren’t created for us. They were created for God and for His enjoyment. And the great delight is that God lets us join in on the enjoyment. He lets us participate in His delight of the world that He created.

It is when we align our will with HIs and be about Him that we get the greatest joy. There is no misery like being focused on ourselves. There is no joy like being focused on God.
