2 Chronicles 32:7-8“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

When you think about the term “confidence”, do you think in terms of needing it to overcome opposition?  The opposition doesn’t have to be people or situations, much of our lack of confidence comes from how we see ourselves.  Even as Christians, we can limit that to appearance and what we have, never really living confident in Christ as a daily lifestyle…(Galatians 2:20)

King Hezekiah understood not only the limitations of his people physically, but mentally when it came to opposition.  That the Assyrians were a fierce group of fighters, who had confidence from previous victories!  The King wanted his people to not look at what others had done to define their confidence, but look to the Lord and see themselves differently.  Victorious in the Lord, and not defeated…
Walking by faith, results in seeing God do what we know we can’t without Him.  This not only humbles us, but also gives us great confidence!  So our confidence isn’t prideful and arrogant, coming from some attribute, status, or way we look!  Our confidence comes from seeing God be faithfully with us through opposition, physically and mentally…
Challenge yourself, do you lack confidence because you are focusing on what is opposing you, more than Who is with you?  Your opposition could be your own mentality about yourself.  Not seeing ourselves with Christ leaves us “uncovered” and insecure about all of our flaws/sins (Genesis 3).  But knowing Christ is with us, we should renew our mind continually to that reality, and find “an anchor” for confidence and continuous victory!
