When was the last time you rejoiced in the Lord? When did you last feel happy that you belong to God?

I know it’s dangerous to talk about feelings. We are not to follow our feelings since feelings come and go. However, it is a valuable indication of the health of our soul. If we are NOT feeling happy in the Lord, ever, then there is something wrong with our walk with the Lord. If you never feel happy with your so called loved ones, then there is something wrong with your relationship. Wouldn’t you say?

Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;

shout, O Israel!

Rejoice and exult with all your heart,

O daughter of Jerusalem!

Zephaniah 3:14

Zephaniah tells us to rejoice in God. I don’t think he means for us to do that devoid of any feelings. I think it must INCLUDE happy feelings. If our attitude toward God is always gloomy, gritty, sucking it up, without any happy feelings towards Him, that does not glorify Him. How would you like it if your spouse felt that way about you? Doing things for you but never actually happy in you?

But how do we control our emotions? How do we feel happy in/about God? Zephaniah tells us:

Fear not, O Zion;

let not your hands grow weak.

The Lord your God is in your midst,

a mighty one who will save;

he will rejoice over you with gladness;

he will quiet you by his love;

he will exult over you with loud singing.

Zeph. 3:16-17

He is happy with you! He is with you and is glad that He is! He will even sing over you! Yes, with all your flaws and all!

Wanna know a secret to pleasing God?

Be pleased in Him.
