Have you thanked God for NOT giving you what you want?
Getting what we want could actually be a curse from God. If we are bent on getting something, God may give it to us, but it will work to our disadvantage rather than advantage.
“But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert; he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them.” Psalm 106:14-15
What is this talking about? It’s about the Israelites not having bread to eat in the desert on the way to the promised land. They bickered and complained about this. They distrusted the Lord saying, “He brought us out here to kill us!” Yet, God gave them what they wanted – bread – because He knew it was absolutely necessary. But along with it, a curse, which left many of them dead for distrusting the Lord.
What was their problem? We need to know so as not make the same mistakes as the Israelites. In v. 13, it says, “But they soon forgot his works; they did no wait for his counsel.”
They forgot!
Forgetting is a sin. Forgetting God, that is…
Every time we complain, we are forgetting God.
We forget that we deserved death and hell, yet Christ gave us life and heaven. If we remembered that, we would never complain. We complain about our job. But we didn’t deserve that job! We complain about our church. But we didn’t deserve our church! We complain about our spouse. But we deserved Satan and His demons to torment us forever and ever! (I’m sure even the most egregiously evil spouse is better than that!)
Meditate upon Christ and what He received – reviling, slander, hatred, spits, betrayal, and crucifixion. ALL what we deserved…. how does it compare with what you have? A difficult spouse? Hard boss? Unreliable car? Get over it!
Remember God!
