1 Chronicles 28:4-Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever. For he chose Judah as leader, and in the house of Judah my father’s house, and among my father’s sons he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.
As a Christian I believe having the Holy Spirit gives us a sensitive heart to see people’s pain if we are truly in tune with Him. Though of course we can be hardened by the daily grind of life, God gives us no excuse not to be a voice, a light, or a ray of hope to those who have lived with the pain of being shunned…(Hebrews 3:13-15)
Though we all have scars we must go to the Lord to have healed. The question and challenge to us, is whether we have allowed the Lord to replace the scars of neglect and abuse, with mutual pleasure in being chosen by God?
David reveals in this passage a heart, that had to deal with the neglect of his earthly father, by cherishing the love of His heavenly Father! At this time in his life he is exhorting his son Solomon as an old man. Recalling the incident of being chosen by God’s pleasure, instead of being overlooked by the prophet Samuel, his father, and brothers…(1 Samuel 16:6-12)
The answer to healing is not to deny what happened, but to face it and replace it! Not replace it with superficial accomplishments and physical beauty or whatever, but with an intentional pursuing relationship with Christ who is love! Replacing pain and abuse in the heart, with achievement and “success” does nothing for the heart, it just gives us layers to hide behind…(Proverbs 4:23, John 8:31-32)
Spiritual and emotional healing is usually a process. But it becomes “actualized” when the people who neglect, abuse, or disregard us, can no longer keep us from rejoicing in Jesus from a pure heart. A pure heart sees God who is love, so it impossible for people’s lack of love to be more effective than Him. The challenge is whether we are continually abiding in God/Love that it eventually outweigh our scars? If not, we will effect people more from our bitterness than God’s love…
