“Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will make your path straight” Prov. 3:6.
One way to acknowledge God is to consult him before making decisions. Have you asked God before you made a major decision? For example, whether you should marry the person you are dating? Whether you should take that job? Whether you should quit that job? Whether you should make that large purchase? Whether you should move to another state? Whether…
This kind of asking God before making decisions acknowledges that God is the decisive factor in our decision making and not us. Before we weigh the pros and cons, before we do our research, before we read books on the subject, or google search, we ought to come before God and ask!
One difference between king Saul and King David is the fact that David asked God before He did anything. “He (Saul) did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.” (1 Chron. 10:14)
Perhaps we don’t ask because we are afraid of His answers. Or that we do not know how to hear Him when He answers. The fact is that many Christians never really heard the voice of God and therefore do not know how to discern His will when He directs one way or another.
But the Bible makes it clear that He will speak when He is sought!
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
Have you ever fasted to seek His will? Have you gone on a personal retreat only with a Bible and a notebook to hear what God is saying? Have you prayed over the matter seeking only Him and not some expert or a guru on the subject? Have you ever gone against your preference because God seemed to be going the other direction?
Would you ask Him? And sit at His feet long enough to hear Him?
