Jesus is not our Savior only once. He needs to be our Savior daily! Just like my wife is not a wife only on our wedding day. She’s my wife until death do us apart.

When I first became a Christian, the circle that I was in emphasized the doctrine of “once saved, always saved” so much that we never have to receive Christ again. Receiving Christ when we have already done it once would be an insult to Jesus, they said. So, simply rest in the fact that you are saved, and meantime do try to live as morally as possible. That was the Christians life…

But I see it differently now. Yes, we have moved from death to life the minute that Christ has become our Savior and Lord, but we need to daily receive Him as our treasure and be saved again and again. The wrath has been removed, however, the presence of sin has not. So, we need to go to Him again and again, daily repenting, and relying on Him, so that not only will we be saved from the punishment of sin, power of sin, but also the presence of sin.

Save me, O God!

For the waters have come up to my neck.

I sink in deep mire,

where there is no foothold;

I have come into deep waters,

and the flood sweeps over me.

I am weary with my crying out;

my thoat is parched.

My eyes grow dim

with waiting for my God.

Ps. 69:1-3
