It is only half true that the opposite of faith is sight. While it is true that “We walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7), it is NOT true that faith is blind. Faith is seeing! It is seeing the invisible. It is seeing the spiritual reality beyond the physical reality. So, if I may rephrase 2 Cor. 5:7, “We walk by faith that sees the spiritual reality and not by sight of physical reality alone.”

I am becoming more and more aware of how important it is for us to “see” this spiritual reality. We can’t follow a negative. We can only follow a vacuum for so long. We must see where we are going. And the more clearly we can see spiritual reality, the less we become entangled with sin and the discontentment. That is why the Apostle Paul prays for his church to see this spiritual reality.

“… the Father of glory may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you…” Eph. 1:17-18.

Paul “saw” the spiritual reality. It wasn’t physical reality yet, but he saw it with his spiritual eyes. God granted him that privilege. And I do believe that if we are to continue living out the faithful Christian life here on earth, we need to see this spiritual reality as well.

Ask God to open your eyes to the glory of Christ.

Ask Him to enable you to see the invisible.

Ask Him to make heaven and hell real to you.
