Genesis 4:6-The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?
 
Have you ever looked at someone’s life and seen glimpses of what they have, that you wished you had?  Of course the Bible calls that “coveting”, and it breeds a dangerous jealousy and an ambition that desires to have what others have by any means necessary (James 3:16)…(think David and Bathsheba)
The biggest delusion that comes with coveting to have what other people have, is that we don’t consider the work people did to get it!  We make assumptions about what we “deserve” and think because we see someone with it, we should have it too! Whether that’s good relationships, career, family, etc..
This was Cain, and his spirit runs rampant in our society today, where coveting what we see other people have is an epidemic.  Cain, like our problem in general with coveting, is that he assumed that what God gave his brother Abel wasn’t deserved, if he didn’t get blessed also!  Yet Cain failed to acknowledge the faithful works Abel did “behind the scenes” in order for God to regard his sacrifice, and disregard his…
If we’re honest, we generally don’t have what other people have, because we don’t want to put in the effort to get there?  If we want a good relationship like we see our friends having, have we honestly sowed in love like them? Or have we assumed that because it’s good we should have it, never taking responsibility for what we sowed into the relationship, for it to be lacking what it does?
