Psalm 20:7– Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

The Psalmist challenges us to find our victory in the Lord.  That the desired joy that we want doesn’t come through human means.  Or the desired peace and victory over stress doesn’t come through the things we conjure up, but such things come by way of God.
The key word however is trust.  Yet how easy is it to be persuaded by the things we think of, taste, smell, and see, and limit “victory” being defined through those things?  But trust always denotes relationship, and a relationship without trust is not secure, nor a desirable one.  So confidence in the relationship becomes an issue and the idea of trust evaporates, so the Lord being our means and end for victory fades…
The challenge is to ask ourselves “what caused me to lose trust in the Lord, or what has persuaded me to be more trusting of “man-made” means than God?”  It takes courage to trust anyone, but it takes more courage to trust the Lord, because His ways are generally foreign to what we know, but they are always best!
We generally trust people or ourselves more than God because the way we do things are familiar and safe.  But the Lord is not familiar and hardly safe, but He promises to protect us, which people rarely do!  Eventually you learn that people are more concerned with preserving themselves than you!  But God promises to be our “protector” when we trust and follow His ways, over the limitations of ourselves, people, and things (Psalm 20:1).
