Luke 18:3,4–And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small of stature. 4So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.
If you think about your day and the things you are passionate about, where would other people be on that list? The desire to serve them, affirm your love for them, consider them, etc?
Now think about the excuses we make as to why we aren’t so passionate? Why we don’t look to serve others because of the things that seem to get in the way? How many of those obstacles in our way are things we have chosen to put there? In other words, are the obstacles in your life an excuse, and are they keeping you from seeing Jesus rightly and serving others?
Zaccheus was a short man and a rich tax collector who knew he had no chance of seeing Jesus physically. First because of his height, but also because he was despised by the general public as a cheat. Yet both of those obstacles didn’t keep him from affirming his desire to see Jesus, so he climbed a tree!
What is a possible “tree” you need to climb in order to see Christ clearly? Or what do you have to remove out of your life that you have the zeal again to serve Him passionately? Pray that God give you the grace to want to be zealous for Him, otherwise those obstacles become excuses that have replaced our once zealous love for Christ.
In His Love, Ld
