God seems to be always too late…
When we pray, He doesn’t answer. When we ask for help, He doesn’t seem to help. When we are in despair and crying out for the rescue, He doesn’t seem to be there.
And we are deeply hurt by this. “If God truly loves us, then why would He not answer us? Why would He just ignore us? Why wouldn’t He make the situation better when He could with a snap of a finger?”
I don’t pretend to know the answer to these. Especially if you are in one of those circumstances where you are beyond being desperate for God, and you are giving up. But, please hear this….
“Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;
my eye is wasted from grief;
my soul and my body also.
For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
and my bones waste away.”
Ps. 30:9-10
David penned most of the Psalms, but Jesus extensively quoted from them. And Jesus said elsewhere that the Bible is really about Him. If so, then those words above are also about Jesus.
It is Jesus whose eye, body, and soul are wasted from grief. It is His life spent with sorrow and His years with sighing. It is His strength that failed because of OUR iniquity, and His bones wasted away.
I often wondered what Jesus prayed at the garden of Gethsemane before He was to be captured and be crucified. They are written in the Psalms!
“He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” Isa. 53:3
Jesus not only knows your sorrows, He has gone through it Himself. He knows your pain. He is IN your pain!
Turn your eyes to Him. See Him suffering on the cross. See Him crying out to His Father who would NOT rescue Him from the cross! Listen to His prayers being rejected at the garden of Gethsemane!
Let us suffer well…
