If you are before the age of 21, you are rapidly peaking. But if you are after the age of 21, you are slowly fading. (People talk about plateauing but I think of it more as imperceptibly gradual decline)
I know it’s depressing to think about, but it’s true. My first daughter at age 7, only has 14 years before she starts to decline physically.
That is the “glory” of our body. Around the age of 21 is when a person is at his/her physical peak and then that glory starts to fade ever so slowly until none is left. But those of us who are followers of Christ, will receive a new and permanent body with such greater glory that will put the previous glory to shame! Compared to the new body we will receive, this earthly body, no matter how beautiful and young, is like shining a flash light at noonday when the Sun is shining bright.
“Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory.” 2 Cor. 3:10-11
Before this, Paul talks about the glory on Moses’ face that he had to put a veil over, after meeting God on a mountain and how that slowly faded over time. But in the New Testament, the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ is much more glorious and will never fade.
Don’t fret over getting older.
Don’t obsess over health and looking young.
Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth.
Rather, look to the permanent glory we will have in Jesus and put your faith in the grace that God will give us in the future.
Take your eyes off yourself. Fix your mind on Christ. Believe me, you will feel better…
