God will not meet up to our expectations as long as our expectations are wrong.

When a mob at Jerusalem saw Jesus riding in on a donkey, they shouted “Hosanna in the highest!” giving Him a king’s welcome. But less than a week later, the same mob was shouting “crucify Him, crucify Him!” How can their opinion of Jesus change so quickly from that of a conquering king to a criminal worthy of death?

Because Jesus didn’t meet their expectations.

They expected an earthly king. They wanted Jesus to overthrow Rome and give them their control back. They wanted their pride restored. But when Jesus wasn’t making a headway toward it, they turned on Him and killed Him.

What are your expectations of God? What are you asking Him to do? Are they earthly in nature? What if God never gave you your request? Would you think evil of Him or would you think God knows best?

The Jews couldn’t think past their current earthly circumstances. And Jesus was a tool that was going to get them what they wanted. We know how that went…

I hope Jesus isn’t just a tool to you. He is Lord. He is Master. He is the reason why we exist. He is the reason why we suffer so that we would become more like Him… No matter our suffering, it will soon be over. Life isn’t that long. But God is forever. Heaven is forever.

Fix your gaze upon Him. He knows your circumstances and He’s allowing it for your good….
