I would like to ask you to pray for me and my family that Jesus will be the greatest treasure in our lives. And if you would like, I will pray the same for you and your family.

I know intellectually that Jesus is the greatest treasure there is. He is the source of all good things we desire. And He is so much more. However, I do not always feel it in my heart. And thus I often turn to other things for satisfaction. Such as?

Such as daydreaming about having new things. I want a new watch. But I already have two that are working perfectly.
I want a vacation in Hawaii. For a month!
I want recognition. I want people to like me and admire me and say how blessed they are because of me.
I could add many more things to this list..

However, if I were seeing Jesus as He truly was and knew that I already possess Him, then it should be, “I do not need anything else! I already have the greatest treasure there is. I’m happy with that one treasure!”

I’m reminded of the rich young man in Matthew 19:16, who came to Jesus seeking for eternal life. Jesus said for him to sell everything and give to the poor and follow Him. But he went away sad because he was rich. Only if he could see Jesus as the true rich! Only if he could see that his earthly riches were like a fake pearl and Jesus is giving him a real one! But because He couldn’t see Jesus as such, he thought much of his little wealth…

But how do you take delight in something you don’t delight in? Do you honestly delight in Jesus? Do you delight in Him more than you delight in your hobby? Do you delight in him more than you delight in gadgets? More than sex? Money? Vacation?

Do I? (Not always…)

How do we get ourselves to delight in Jesus more than anything or anyone? We can’t. That’s why Jesus said about the young man, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

That is why I asked you to pray for me. And I will pray for you that it will be so if not so already. Today starts Lent. 40 days leading up to Easter. Wean yourself from the fog of earthly things so that you can see Jesus more clearly. To see Him is to love Him. And to love Him is to delight in Him. And when we delight in Him, our circumstances become far more bearable.
