Have you ever compared the recordings of the Bible with historical facts to see if the Bible is true? If you haven’t, you should. Because by doing so, you will discover deeper truths lodged in the Bible.
Case in point: God promises David that he will always have his descendant reigning on his throne (Jer 33:21). But we know that no kingship lasts forever. For example, who is the king of Israel now? There ISN’T one! So, was God wrong when He said that David’s descendant will always be reigning as king? No. Absolutely not. Because David had one descendant whose name was Jesus who is king forever.

If you think this is stretching the Bible to fit historical facts, read the Bible more carefully. Psalm 110:1, for example, King David says, “The Lord said to my lord: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” David here is talking about a future king of Israel who would be his descendant. But he calls him “lord.” Why would David call his future descendant “lord” when he would be his great-great-great grand son? Of course we know the answer. Because his descendant would be no other than the Son of God whose status would be so much higher than a mere human being in David.

So, you and I, as Christians, are the descendants of David. We are the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! Whenever you read about them in the Old Testament, know that it is talking about you! Whenever you see God making good promises to the Israelites, know that God is making it to you! (This should open up the whole Old Testament promises to you!)

Isn’t God awesome?
