It is wise to think through the natural outcome of the choices we make. That is the difference between the wise and the unwise. The wise will think about the consequences of his actions before he makes the move and decide accordingly. The unwise, the opposite.

So, if you ever entertained a thought about what life would be like without God, what is your alternative?

Initially, there will be the sense of freedom. And it is partly right, for Jesus said, “My yoke is easy, my burden light,” which means that there IS a yoke and a burden although easy and light. But when we leave God, we will not be moving from easy yoke to no yoke and light burden to no burden. Rather, we will be moving to hard yoke and heavy burden.

How so? All of sudden, without God, we are in charge. We control our own destination! But it is only an illusion. We can take care of our bodies all we want, but we can’t prevent a stray bullet. We can amass wealth for our loved ones all we want, but there is no guarantee that our loved ones will survive it. Do you know how frustrating it will be to try to control that which you can’t? Just try controlling the outcome of the next big lottery number….

So, in frustration, rather than relying on ourselves, we will rely on something else. And that something else will put a hard yoke and heavy burden on us. It might be an impossible-to-please spouse we rely on. It might be cantankerous children we live for. It might be a habit that requires increasing stimulation for equal effect. When we decide to disbelieve in God, the problem isn’t that we won’t believe in anything but that we WILL believe in anything.

Case in point. Jer 32:35. When Israelites left God, they sacrificed their own children to false gods. You may think, we will never be so stupid to do something like that! Really? We sacrifice the most helpless in our nation at the altar of god of freedom! I’m referring to abortion.

Now, think about Jesus. How gentle. How kind. How loving. How holy. How forgiving. How easy His yoke is. How light His burden…
