Familiarity breeds contempt. This is especially true when it comes to our salvation. Because many of us grew up hearing about it, it no longer has the impact it should have. But perhaps the fault does not lie so much with the listeners. Perhaps it is the ones who are delivering the message about the great salvation who feel that way about their own salvation.
I’m thinking about my own self, of course – “Am I fresh and feeling excited about my salvation and my relationship with Christ?” If not, I can’t possibly expect others who are hearing the message to feel that way. And I’m convinced more and more that it cannot be just an intellectual knowledge, but a personal relationship that is experienced.
How have you experienced Christ lately? Be honest with yourself. I’m not talking about what you know about Christ – that He’s forgiving and loving and stuff. But how have you specifically experienced Christ that touched your heart? You can’t remember? I bet your faith is dry…
This is where we need to make an effort. In trying not to be legalistic, we have abandoned all efforts to draw closer to God. But that is Satan’s lie. “Grace is not opposed to efforts; only to earning,” Dallas Willard said. But more importantly, Paul says to make every effort to make our salvation sure. (Heb 12:14)
Spend time with Him today. That is why you were created..
