Sorry for the lateness of this devotional. I’ve been going to sleep later and waking up later than usual watching the Olympics…

Our faith is shaken by what our eyes “see.” Therefore, we better be careful what we “see.”

How do I mean? We are told as Christians, God will never leave us nor forsake us. We feel good and reassured when we hear that. But when bad things start happening to us, we start doubting it. But what is making us doubt? What our eyes “see.” When we “see” that our bank account is shrinking. When we “see” that our children are going astray. When we “see” that our best effort isn’t bringing the success we expected.

But what if we “saw” God instead? Rather than seeing the world and its chaos and irrationality, what if we fixed our eyes on God and saw Him enthroned high above?

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9.

This is repeated several times to Joshua. Why? Because God knew that Joshua would “see” scary things happening around him very soon – like people bigger and more numerous than him coming after him. But God is commanding him to see beyond those physical things and know that there is an almighty God backing Him up.

So our problem in not that we do not see. We do. It’s just that we do not see enough.

Pray that you will see beyond present reality. Pray that your spouse’s/children’s/bf’s/gf’s eyes will be open and “see” beyond this world. That’s the true seeing!
