Have you ever been disappointed by God?

Perhaps you didn’t get what you expected or even what you thought was promised by God?

There are many things that didn’t turn out like I expected in my life. There are many things that I prayed for I never got. Granted, many of those were selfish requests, but some of them were kingdom-oriented and God-glorifying… There are many people that I have worked with and prayed for that no longer follow God. Even looking into my own life, there are many things that I’m struggling with that I should’ve gotten over.

The Bible is so intensely real that even those sentiments – disappointments in God – are recorded in a raw fashion.

Ps. 89:38, “But you (God) have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one. You have renounced the covenant with your servant…”

This psalmist feels rejected and ignored by God, and further, he feels God broke His promise with him!

But that’s what makes the relationship real!

Think about it – If God gave us exactly what we expected and He behaved exactly like how we want Him, what we have is a cosmic vending machine and not a Person to relate to!

Would you like to have a robot who will never oppose you or a real relationship with someone who can disagree with us?

God is God. He is a Person. He is not a math equation to figure out. He is to have a personal relationship with! Of course He will do things that do not make sense to us. Even my wife does! =) (And I’m sure Janet thinks the same of my actions sometimes!)
