Do you ever get tired of life?

You get the impulse to leave the world and be somewhere other than here? Of course as Christians, we are looking for our permanent home in heaven, but sometimes simply a different place will do.
That’s why we dream of going on a vacation – just like I’m doing right now even though we just went to Cannon Beach last week…
I think one of the reasons why we feel so trapped is because we have too much freedom!
In other words, the reason why we are losing freedom is because we are indulging it. Isn’t that ironic?
1 John 2:15-17
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
What takes away our joy and our sense of freedom is the world; that is: 1) What I don’t have I desperately want (lust of flesh, lust of eyes), 2) What I have that I feel proud (boasting of what we have)
1) What is it that you don’t have that you desperately want?
– What websites do you frequent?
– What do you daydream about buying?
– What do you think will liberate you finally?
2) What do you have that you feel proud about?
– Children?
– Education?
– House?
– Certain skills?
Of course these things are not bad in and of themselves. Rarely an evil thing competes with God. It’s always good things that compete against God. But when they become the ultimate thing, that’s when they entrap us and take away our freedom!
So, what do we do? Do not love them, and replace them with something better – namely God. Saturate your mind in who Christ is and what He has done. Stay there until your joy returns.
Cheers!
