If you could see your life in terms of investments, what are you investing in? If someone could do an audit of all your time, your money, and relationships in the past and present, what would he say your greatest investments were in?

The very term “investment” implies that the reward is not immediate but rather in the future. As such, it is quite possible that you have not really invested in anything. You have spent money, time, relationships all on yourself right away and therefore has no investment. But we all know and agree that it is wise to invest, especially if it will return many many fold in the future.

“This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor.”

This is what Boaz said to Ruth when she proposed to him for marriage! (You read that right!) He was old enough to be her uncle and he realizes that a young woman such as Ruth would not naturally find him attractive. But rather than seeking after her own pleasure, she was seeking after the benefit of her mother-in-law, Naomi, and the prosperity of her family.

And we thought romantic love is a must for people to get married! There is something greater than romantic love after all! And what is that? Pleasing God and following the will of God – even if that means marrying someone you do not romantically love!

But that sounds wrong, does it not? Only goes to show how influenced we are by Hollywood…

Invest our desires and dreams into furthering the kingdom of God rather than furthering our own, and the reward is immeasurably greater than what we could ask for. (Ruth became the great, great grandmother of the One who holds the universe in His hand…!)
