Matthew 10:12-14–As you enter the house, greet it.  13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town.

In numerous times out of love and concern, we try to teach, counsel, and correct others, but in doing so allow our peace to be determined by whether or not they accept it…
But if we are prayerful of our motives, then our peace shouldn’t be based on others’ rejection or acceptance.  For the sake of freedom to say and do what’s right, God wants our peace rooted in pleasing Him in true worship…
Jesus emphasized this as He sent the disciples out to preach the Kingdom of God.  In the passage above, Jesus expects the disciples to operate from a place of true worship and obedience to Him, so motives are not the issue.  What Jesus wanted to establish in His disciples, was that “true peace” did not hinge on people’s acceptance/rejection, but in worship and obedience to Him.
For example when sharing a “hard truth” with anyone causes a fear in straining the relationship, we fear losing our “peace” with that person.  So many times it can cause us not to say what should be said or done for their benefit.  But if our peace resides in Christ, the conviction to please Him overcomes the fear of rejection to do what needs to be done, while still keeping our peace. (Genesis 3:6, Ephesians 2:14, James 4:17)
The Bible says that “perfect love casts out fear”, that through true worship we grow to reverence and fear not pleasing God (perfect love), more than fearing rejection by people or living for their affirmation.  Jesus knew the disciples were going to be rejected at times with their message, but He didn’t want their peace and confidence hinging on it.  Because in Jesus’ counsel of giving truth (in love) to anyone, is that they judge themselves unworthy to receive it, if they reject it.-(1 John 4:18)
Our lesson is not to allow our pride to disturb our peace, because people reject our counsel.  The goal cannot be my affirmation but further worship, that prayerfully whoever we are ministering to, instructing, or raising to have their eyes opened to Christ and the Truth.  But the worshiper can still “keep their peace”-In His Love, Ld
