Yesterday, we witnessed two young men commit themselves to follow Jesus by getting baptized. I can’t over-emphasize how significant an event that is! It is far more significant than any president winning the election, or a football team winning the Superbowl, or even a brand new planet starting to form!
I know you think I’m exaggerating, but I most certainly am not. Listen to how C.S. Lewis puts it:
If individuals live only 70 years, then a state, or a nation, or a civilisation, which may last for a thousand years, is more important than an individual. But if Christianity is true, then the individual is not only more important but incomparably more important, for he is everlasting and the life of the state or civilisation, compared with his, is only a moment. But why take C.S.Lewis’s word for it? Here’s the Bible: Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain;they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.
The children of your servants shall dwell secure;their offspring shall be established before you.Ps. 102:25-28
The sun will burn out. The earth might freeze over. But we, who belong to Christ, will live forever. So, it is with the everlastings that we joke with, we get mad at, we eat with, and we shun.
Would you look around you and see who needs encouragement? If you encourage one soul and restore him/her back to Christ, you have done more than to save ALL endangered species!
