Before the year is out, take time to jot down all that God has done for you to remind yourself of His goodness.
In multiple places in the Bible, the author remembers how God chose the nation Israel, led her through the wilderness, provided for her even in the midst of her rebellion, gave her a land, and disciplined her for her good.
In Nehemiah 9, the author retraces the history of Israel and gives thanksĀ to God for all His wonders and provisions. He is reminding the people to be thankful and also to trust Him. If He had been faithful in the past, He will be faithful in the future…
Oh, how often are we like a child who forgets all the years that her parents have toiled for her and complains because the last thing she asked for wasn’t granted speedily? Our attitude is, “What have you done for me lately? It doesn’t matter what you have done for me in the past. What matters is right now!”
As a parent, it grieves my heart when my children act that way. The sleepless nights, the trips to the emergency rooms, the countless rides to games and concerts, the money spent on their gifts and clothes and food, the trips we have taken, the prayers, the agonies…. And yet you are mad at me because I won’t let you be on the iPad past 9 pm for your good???
Put yourself in God’s shoes. How would He see your complaints and dissatisfaction in general? He HAS given you His Son, hasn’t He?
Remember His goodness towards you. Jot them down. Read them to remind yourself until your heart warms with appreciation and love.
