What if a law passed that made Christian worship illegal in America? What if they imprisoned those who would break this law? That means a criminal record on our file – which will affect our future job choices and credit ratings, etc.
Would we risk being imprisoned and still gather for worship secretly – such as in muslim countries and parts of China? Or would we resort to our good ole’ American individualism and think, “Hey, as long as I’m staying dedicated to God and worship by myself, God would be pleased. Besides, He wouldn’t want to see His children suffer needlessly for something like a public worship!”
Perhaps the best thing that could happen to American Christianity is for a law to pass that will make Christian gatherings illegal. It will separate the true ones from the false… Can you imagine the sweet fellowship we will have among true Christians who are being persecuted together? Finally, life will have meaning it will seem!
Well, I’m not about to petition for the government to shut down Christian churches. I’m actually thankful that we have the freedom of religion. But let us not be like the Israelites who only went to God to give them pleasure and comfort:
“They say to the seers, ‘See no more visions!’ and to the prophets, ‘Give us no more visions of what is right!’ Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions…. [and] stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel!'” Isa. 30:10,11
Worldly pleasures and comfort will last between 0 to 60 years max (depending on your age and health…). Godly pleasures (pleasures Christ gives) will last a million years. Be smart!
