When we’re young, we all have general aspirations of building a life that is enjoyable, reputable, and overall “successful” in some way.  But in our youth we rarely consider the complexities of life, and the examples we witness of people who had those same aspirations, but didn’t “pan out” like they had hoped in building their life…

No one can measure the effect of our emotions, and how they trigger actions that can either be effective to building, or leave us vulnerable to be destroyed when turmoil hits.  In the context that Jesus speaks about building, it starts and ends with obedience to what He is saying.  That we all can have general aspirations of a good life.  But inevitably what destroys it, is not preparing for the complexities of our emotions, that then effect our actions, in response to the storms in life…

Preparation that digs down beyond the “dream phase” of life, to the realities of inevitable trials and tribulations, can only be withstood when we embrace the Word to stabilize our life.  To stabilize it enough, not to react in a way that destroys our own house!  So digging deep down to “the rock”, bypasses the “shallow idealism” of building for appearances sake.  But to build for the sake of keeping it standing, without being decimated by unstable emotions and reactions from trials…

The longer you live, the more you realize that it is our reactions to trials that effect whether a house stands or not.  It’s not that some people/families don’t go through anything, the difference is the grace of God to desire His Word and obey it.  Allowing the Word to dig deep down, is what eventually stabilizes our hearts and decisions.

Unlike the world who build for their own glory, God desires us to build a house that can withhold up to life for His glory!  So fight to build your life beyond appearances, it may take longer to build it, but it will be built to endure, as a witness to God’s amazing grace!
