Jeremiah 33:6-8Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. 7  I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first.
Jeremiah spent his ministry trying to convince Judah/Israel not to seek circumstantial peace, because that would not last if they were living disobedient to God.  He preached warning them, that God would lead them into captivity because of their willful disobedience…
Jeremiah knew in the heart of Judah/Israel, that a desire for peace and comfort is natural.  But what signifies faith, is to desire God to provide all such things for His glory (Philippines 4:19).  Yet when our hearts are not focused to seek God and His will, it surrenders to whatever is comfortable, as an illusion of peace.  Because waiting for someone to provide anything takes submission, and submission takes patience and trust.
What angered God was that they never sought Him and trusted in His promises.  That they were so sick with their guilt and shameful ways, that they kept a hard heart, and lived indulgent in their idolatry.  That is why God took them through captivity, because their hardship would cause them to seek God to be rescued, and in rescuing them, heal them to trust in His goodness over their own ways…
Tough seasons in life can lead to one of two responses.  We either prove that we have no root of grace, and fall away from God, because our circumstances have been too difficult.  Or we fight to trust God and His promises as true.  So if God promises healing and health to our souls, His grace to believe renews our trust, so we won’t leave Him.  We don’t leave because He is our strength and glory, not our own ability to endure hardship…
