Would you like to know exactly when you would die? If somehow the time of your death could be predicted accurately, would you like to know? How would it change what and how you do things if you did know?

If God told you that you would die on November 3rd of 2027, what would change? That’s 10 years from now. I will be 57, and my daughters will be 21 and 19. My parents may or may not be living until then… My mind is already racing to figure out what I need to do to prepare for my departure. How I need to get my family and church situated. And also how I have such short time to do what matters most.

Go ahead and think about it. If you knew you would die exactly 10 years from now, how would your life change?

“O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!” Ps. 39:4

I’m still not sure if I would choose to find out the time of death if I had the choice. But it would certainly make an impact on how I live my life. It will bring a sense of urgency to everything I do and focus me to things that are truly important.

The fact is that you and I might not have 10 years. It may be 5. Or less… But whether it’s 1 or 50, it’s brief. Our days are but a few handbreadths. It’s like a breath on a cold morning.

Plan for your death.

Don’t waste time.

Focus on what matters.

Trust God.
