Romans 3:19-20–Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
Maybe one of the most popular sayings in secular society by people who have been in trouble or made major mistakes, is to say “Only God can judge me.” Which is very true technically, but flawed if they really understood what that means. Of course no one really but a court can judge and sentence people, but that happens because people break laws that are given…
But as Christians, as much as we should accept the “world’s” sentiment of God being the ultimate Judge. What does that mean for you and I who believe? It would be easy to say to other people not to judge us, but does that leave us innocent? Having God as a Judge and Lawgiver, is to acknowledge that His Word is my judge, so if I violate what is written, it’s not what my neighbor says that judges me, but God’s Word being the ultimate authority.
The challenge is whether we are defensive to the point, that we dismiss God’s Word and principles out of the mouth of people, and use the “only God can Judge me” card in our minds? Because though people aren’t the judge who point out the truth, the truth ends up judging us regardless, whether they say it or not…
Ask yourself whether your defensive posture towards being corrected, is violating a desire to be under the authority of God? Being always defensive, is to struggle with the authority of God’s righteous standard, that we all violate! So instead of a prideful denial, we should have a humble consideration, that God could be using people to prove that we are not in ultimate authority?
In His Love, Ld
