When I was a young man and teaching 3rd & 4th grade Sunday School class in Virginia, I discovered that if I befriend one child, then all the children will think I’m their friend! There must’ve been 12-15 children in my class, but I didn’t have to befriend every one of them. All I had to do was really well-liked by a couple children, and every other child would think I’m their friend.
For example, after Sunday School one day, I was playing with children from my class in the church playground, and a child who was brand new to the church acted and talked to me like he’s known me his whole life! Since I was nice to other children his age, he must’ve thought that I would be nice to him as well. And he would be right.
I see that this is how Jesus acted while on earth. He didn’t heal everyone. He only healed a several. For example, in the pool of Bethesda, many invalids were lying there waiting for the water to be stirred up in order to be healed. But Jesus picks out one man among them and heals him. (John 5:1-7) Apparently, He did this secretly since no other person asked to be healed that day. (You can only imagine that if others saw him, they would’ve all flocked to him…)
Jesus could’ve healed them all that day. He didn’t even have to touch them to heal them. All He had to do was say the word, “Be healed,” and they would all be healed. But He didn’t. Why not?
It seems to be God’s method that He makes an example of the few and expect all of us to get that He would eventually do that for all of us! In other words, how He dealt with a few, with kindness and grace, is how He would deal with all of us.
Some of us will succeed, be healed, experience a miracle, and/or touched by Jesus. But many of us will not. However, ALL those who put their trust in Jesus WILL ultimately receive every single blessing that Jesus promised. (Jeremiah 17:7)
If you doubt God’s grace, at least look to others that God blessed and know that God will bless you too eventually.
