Matthew 17:12–But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.”
I remember as a kid growing up, we would try and catch the biggest spider and the biggest bee to make them fight one another! It was our own personal “Animal Planet” using all kinds of creatures for our entertainment. But now that I am older I’ve grown to have a respect for God’s creatures, and have a hard time watching my son and his friends do the same thing!
As a young boy, I didn’t understand the value of insects from this more sensitive perspective I have as a Christian and steward over the earth, so I did whatever I pleased to things like that. Having the ability to recognize the value of something, makes all the difference as to how you respond and treat it…
This is what Jesus was pointing out to the disciples when He was showing them His glory on the Mount of Transfiguration. He wanted them to know exactly Who He was and His glory, that they wouldn’t fail to recognize the significance of Who He was, and why He was going to die on the cross.
For us as believers, to have the privilege to see the glory of Christ, and His salvation working in our lives, should make all the difference as to how we see life. That unlike the people who would “blindly” crucify Jesus, we cannot live our lives doing whatever we please. If we can, it is a indication we haven’t seen His glory to fight to obey Him!
In His Love, Ld
