Isaiah 53:5–But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his stripes we are healed.
When God fetched Adam and Eve out from hiding in shame from what they did, He wanted them to be honest with what happened. That shame would not plague their soul and they have to live “in hiding” all their lives, ashamed of what they did before God…
When we are not honest with our sin and shame, we must turn into deceptive people. At the very least we are deceiving ourselves. In their initial response towards each other in in the garden of Eden after their sin, Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent. Neither were honest about the situation. Both deceiving themselves in order to avoid the shame of their sin…
Just like we desire honesty from people and our kids if they do something wrong, because we love them and want a sincere relationship with them, God wants the same thing. That if we don’t take responsibility and be honest with our shame before God, we can’t have fellowship with Him, because He cannot dwell with sin. So being honest and confessing the truth regarding our situation, becomes paramount to having any real fellowship with Him (1 John 1:6).
Jesus went through all the pangs of coming to earth and suffering and dying, that He could redeem us from the inevitable shame we as sinners incur daily. So there cannot be a good reason to hide in shame, and lie to ourselves and live in denial, instead of being honest and confessing to Him. It might be that what we want to do and believe, is more important than being a true worshiper…(John 4:24)
