James 3:17–But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
One of the greatest enhancers of good communication in a relationship is knowing that you can express what you think, and reason with one another. I realize this was not something that was normal when I was growing up. But in raising my kids I am realizing that if God is open to reason from us, why shouldn’t I be with my kids and other people?
God is so secure in what He knows is best for us, and being perfect in patience, He allows us to reason with Him. Though our reasoning may not line up with His will and desire for us, He still invites communication for the sake of relationship. He commands us to commune with without ceasing, because in a dialog like prayer, He wants us open to His perfect reasoning as well!
People who are open to reason are secure in what they know, but are also secure in what they don’t know. So they invite dialog, with the possibility of knowing they could learn something about you or themselves! But wisdom not derived from God and His Spirit is closed, and is so insecure that they could be wrong, they don’t invite dialog they dictate and/or manipulate…
God desires us as Christians to invite dialog because we know Christ and His Truth, but we also know we are sinful and need to learn more about others and ourselves. Are you inviting dialog in your life through prayer with God? Are you learning how to be open to reason and guided into truth? Or are you trying to find security in being right in your own pride? This leaves us very closed to Christ and others reasoning, eventually straining all relationships.
In His Love, Ld
