Matthew 11:28-30–Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
As a parent I think I have learned more than any other time in life on how to be a “burden bearer” for others. Yet one of the most frustrating and painful things in wanting to help other people, especially loved ones, is their refusal to express the need for help…
The inability to gauge whether or not there is a problem with someone you love can lead you to worry about them, desperately hoping they would share something! But how many of us think in terms of being a resting place for people to share burdens? Most people don’t have the time or want to make the time to hear your heart, so we can make the vital mistake and think no one does!
But Jesus knowing our burdens and knowing how heavy they are, beckons us to come to Him. This call has more to do with our trust that He will treat us better than others, and even better than how we treat ourselves! But that is the point isn’t it. How many of us think we know what is best, creating our own “rest”, and not share our burdens with Jesus?
Instead we create burdens to deal with our burdens, and make them eventually heavier! God the Father is that perfect loving and concerned parent, worried about how we are coping with life and it’s burdens. Literally sending His Son to die on the cross, that we would give our burdensome life in exchange for His rest and peace.
In His Love, Ld
