One of the distinct characteristics of being a Christian is seeing what couldn’t be seen before. It is having our eyes opened to the fact that this world is an illustration of something much grander and more beautiful.

Do you ever wonder why it is that we fall for sappy love stories over and over? Why is it that we love heroes who rescue helpless victims at their own risk? Why do we love stories? Why does our heart break over parents who died trying to save their children caught in a disaster? Why do we find ourselves thinking, “There must be more to life than this!”, no matter how good we have it? (After all, can it really get better than living in the U.S. as we are right now?)

All these are pointing to one thing – to our eternal home that we are only seeing a shadow of on this earth.

As a symbolic gesture, Jesus opens the eyes of a blind man in John 9. And He tell him, “I am the light of the world.” Which means the only way to see the world correctly is through Jesus. Everyone who does not see Jesus is not seeing the world for what it is, for when we can’t see the light, we can’t see anything. (The only reason why we see anything is because the light is shining on them)

That’s what brings richness and fullness to the Christian life. It is seeing and savoring Jesus Christ in everything! For example, when my heart breaks over those walking down the wrong paths, I am identifying with the Father whose heart broke enough to send us His Son to rescue. And I’m given my children in order that I might know how precious God’s Son is to the Father and yet He still gave Him to us, so that I would stand utterly amazed at His love.

We become like what we love and admire. The only way for us to grow as Christians is to behold (see) the glory of this Christ. It is in seeing the light that is Christ that we become like Him. 2 Cor. 3:18, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord,e are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.

Strive to see this Christ everywhere, but especially in the Scriptures.
