Have you noticed this about people?

Imagine two people facing same devastating circumstances (death in the family, losing a limb, being displace, etc)

One is defeated and loses tastes for life because of it, but the other one is obviously in agony but somehow makes the best of it and comes out on top in spite of it.

What makes the difference? How can two people react so differently to the same devastating circumstances?

I believe the answer is in whether we win the fight or lose it.

Fight against who?

Ourselves…

Our fiercest battle is against ourselves.

Think of all the battles that rage within you right now (self-image, self-worth, condemning words to self, future, etc)

But here’s the truth: All of us lose the battle against ourselves. We can’t help it.

Here’s an example: Overeating. Let’s say you conquered your battle against yourself in controlling your appetite. So, you may have won that battle, but it will make you look down on those who lost that battle – those not as skinny as you. So, we may have won one battle (appetite), but we lost a more important battle because of it (pride).

Here’s the conclusion: We can’t save ourselves. The moment we think we saved ourselves, we are drowning in the sin of pride…

We need a savior.

Ps. 53:6, “Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!”

And it did! Or He did rather. Jesus Christ came to save us because we couldn’t save ourselves.

Praise God! Amen!
