At age 50, I’m recognizing my own limitations. I wish I were bolder, more outspoken, decisive, and firm. In other words, I wish I weren’t so timid… Although I’ve come a long way since my childhood, I still suffer from timidity I cannot easily overcome.

But I am glad that God can even use the timid. Not all of God’s people need to be brash and brave – David comes to mind. There are those like Gideon who was timid. When God gives him a big assignment, he needed multiple reassurance that God got the right man. (Judges 6-7) He didn’t believe in himself, although he was God’s chosen instrument. But it is just like God to use a man like him. God does not call the equipped. He equips the called.

So, if you are a timid person, if you do not have much confidence in yourself, rejoice. God can and will use a man/woman just like you. And when God’s call comes, look to Him to give you the strength, rather than looking in to find that strength.
