If God gave you the desire of your heart, what would it be? What is the deepest desire of your heart? Does it have to do with this world only or does it involve something more? And if you received the desire of your heart, would it only benefit you or those around you? 
The problem with us is not our actions. It’s our heart. Wrong actions will come from a wrong heart. A heart that is set on the self will show concern to others only if they will benefit him/her somehow. And the desire of that kind of heart will only be used to spend it on the self. 
“You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. ⁴ You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?” (James 4:3-4)

Learn to desire what God desires first. Ask for His heart to replace yours.
