Acts 1:6-7So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

I’ve learned over time to challenge the motives of my discontentment.  Asking myself, “am I restless because I’m not getting what I want, at the time I want it?”  Because it’s God’s heart that I enjoy the relationship, experiencing His rest, joy, and peace so restlessness from impatience can fade away.  Miraculously when that happens, I find myself content because of our relationship, though my desire(s) haven’t been met…(Philippians 4:19)
The apostles at this time were inquiring when Jesus would restore the kingdom to Israel.  Rather than trying to meet their genuine concern, He told them that knowing when the Father is to do His will, is not for them to concern themselves with.  In essence, Jesus tells them to simply obey what He has for them to do now, and leave that desire to the Father…
The real test of unconditional love in a relationship, is whether we are patient to walk in love with who we are with right now?  Or whether we live discontented (bitter) with who they are, and what we are not getting from them simply because we want it.  It reveals a lack of unconditional love, because we are not content with who they are now, thinking that if they were more like we desire (conditional), then we would be. (1 Corinthians 13:4)
If we think about God’s goal for all Christians, it is for us to be conformed to Jesus Christ.  But it is His love expressed through perfect patience that enables Him to give us a love we don’t deserve now.  Christ is not withholding His love and affection because we’ve yet to become completely like Him, He expressed it while we were sinners!  (Romans 5:6, Romans 8:29)
So though we may have expectations and desires for God to act, whether personally, in a relationship, or profession, it is not up to us to know what God has fixed for the appointed time (results).  Our call is to be content in relationship with Christ, and allow Him to be God.  It’s a sign that we need to continually mature in patient love, that we remain faithful and not become conditional to God and others, because we are not getting what we want from Him, or the people we legitimately desire something from. (Philippians 4:11)
