I am convinced that more dangerous than poverty is our riches. I see the same pattern over and over. When a person is poor and desperate, he clutches onto God. But when his condition improves and becomes well, he forgets God.

Has God made you rich? Has He given you a job, a family, a house, and health? Do not forget God. Or all it did for you is to fatten you up for the slaughter!!!

Jeshurun (Israel) grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, stout, and sleek; then he forsook God who made him and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation. (Deut 32:15)

It’s as if God leads us to poverty to make us come to Him in desperation, and then He gives us riches to test us to see whether we came for Him or for the riches.

If your outer circumstances are improving (a new job, a baby, promotion, college admission, etc), focus your gaze onto God even harder because those bright lights can take your eyes off Him.
