I hear reports of people getting sick from the covid vaccine. Usually after the second dose, they would develop chills, mild fever, aches, and pains. But after two days or so later, they are fine. This is almost a small price to pay to inoculate ourselves from the deadly disease.
This same scenario seems to happen when we decide to follow God’s will. Before it gets better, it often gets worse.
When Moses finally decides to obey God and goes to talk to Pharoah to let his people go, Pharoah makes the Israelites work more difficult. Pharoah thinks that the Israelites are slacking off, and he orders the slave masters to drive even harder. Israelites complain that their condition is now worse than before and they blame Moses. And Moses goes to God to complain…
When we decide to follow God, will things get better immediately? Not likely. Things will often get worse before they get better. But once we have stepped out in faith, we must stick with it. If we look back, we are not worthy of God’s calling.
Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62
