There is much to love in this world. That is why many people in history have sought to live forever. Think of all the preposterous things people do or have done in order to live forever!
I was reminded of this as I was reading Harry Potter (because my daughter is a big fan), and found out that Voldemort (the antagonist) has become evil because he tried to make himself immortal. It is only fiction, but there are real people who attempt this very thing – such as those who have frozen themselves in liquid nitrogen, hoping for a medical breakthrough to revive them!
Whether through elixir, a fountain of youth, Smurfs, liquid nitrogen, people demonstrate their innate desire to live forever. But what on earth for? If this world continued on as it does, do we really want to live here forever?
But I DO want to live forever. But not here. Not like this. All the good we’ve experienced in this world is just a teaser. There is so much more coming for those of us who are in Christ!
“So now, little children, remain in Him, so that when He appears, we may have boldness and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know this as well. Everyone who does what is right has been born of Him” 1 John 2:28-29Merely existing forever will be hellish. But being truly alive forever to the joy that God gives? That’s heaven!
