You don’t take a break from God. That’s because God is the source of our rest. You don’t take a rest from rest!
I’ve seen people who wanted to take a break from church. And usually, this means they take a break from God as well. By their logic, they want to be by themselves and discover who they are by shutting themselves out from everyone, including God.
But we can never discover who we are, nor be refreshed without God. We have no identity apart from God, therefore we can never discover who we are away from God. In the same token, we cannot truly rest apart from God, because He is the source of our rest, to whom we go in order to rest from everything else!
In other words, at the very core of our being is not our individual self, but who we are in God. God is our refuge and strength. That means we find our true rest only in God and through Him.
“He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Phil 1:6
Rest in that verse. Your sanctification depends more on God than it does on you. It doesn’t mean it will be automatic. Your effort is needed. But it is a guarantee!
