It is NOT true that God will never give you what you cannot handle. God often brings what we cannot handle to our lives. Why? So that we will not be self-sufficient – the ultimate form of atheism – but we will rely on the Lord. However, it is critical how we respond when we are faced with an overwhelming situation. It will either make or break us.
King Jehoshaphat of Judah faced a situation he couldn’t handle (2 Chronicles 20). A vast army came against him from the neighboring country. He knew they were more powerful than his army. What does he do? Make an alliance with another country? Consign more soldiers? Develop better weapons? No. He gathers all his countrymen and leads them in a prayer meeting with fasting! In other words, he humbles himself, admits he doesn’t know what to do, and prays to God to deliver.
God responds to Jehoshaphat through a prophet that He will deliver them. And then Jehoshaphat  responds to that in faith by getting a large choir to lead worship in front of the army! And then they watched God destroy the enemy completely and utterly! (2 Chron 20:22-23)
What do you do when you are faced with an overwhelming situation?
Do you start going through your connections to find who can help you?Do you look at your bank account and do the math?Do you enroll yourself in a program that can help you cope?
Or do you get down on your knees, admit that you can’t handle this, and ask God for help?
God may have brought that overwhelming situation to you on purpose to bring you to Himself.
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God” 1 Peter 3:18

Let your first response in front of an overwhelming situation always be to humble yourself, admit you can’t handle it, and then rely on God. Then, do whatever God tells you to do.
