Today is the day after the Resurrection Sunday (Easter). Yesterday was exhilarating. Our church has prepared and served our community in an effort to draw them to Christ. Many guests came and heard the gospel because of the efforts of many who thought first about others rather than themselves. And for that, I am truly thankful. I feel truly blessed to be a pastor to so many people who gave themselves sacrificially to the Lord in this manner.
But today is the morning after. The spiritual high must come down and depression might set in if we are not careful. The devil will be hard at work, especially attacking our emotions, if we will not watch and pray. How to pray at such a moment as this?
“Remember, Lord, your compassion and faithful love, for they have existed from antiquity.Do not remember the sins of my youth or my acts of rebellion;in keeping with your faithful love, remember me because of your goodness, Lord.”Psalm 25:6-7Listen to how the psalmist prays. He’s not asking God to remember him on account of his good deeds. He’s appealing to God’s compassion and love. And he asks God NOT to remember his sins and rebellion. In other words, the only reason why God should be merciful to him is because God is merciful and not because he deserved it.
Such should be our prayer. We fall on our knees before God and ask Him to be gracious and bring about fruit not because of what we have done but because He is gracious and gives to those who are undeserving.
Otherwise, we will think we have produced the fruit and become proud…
Remind God to be merciful. Also ask Him to forget our sins.
